SCSI-2 is a standard generation, not one connector. A legacy system may use a large CN50 connector, a compact HPDB50 interface, a wide 68-position interface, or an internal ribbon assembly. Identify the hardware before choosing a replacement.
Use the equipment manual as the authority for signaling, bus width, pinout, and termination.

Determine narrow or wide
Many SCSI-2 installations are 8-bit narrow systems associated with 50-position cables. Wide implementations use additional data lines and commonly appear with 68-position interfaces. Confirm what the controller and peripheral support rather than inferring width from the equipment’s age.
Name the connector precisely
A CN50 uses a large rectangular shell and bail-style retention; HPDB50 is smaller and commonly screw-retained; internal IDC50 connectors mate with pin headers. Compare the 50-pin SCSI cables, Centronics SCSI cables, and internal SCSI ribbon cables before ordering.
Check signaling before connection
Single-ended and high-voltage differential equipment may use related connector families but are electrically incompatible. Verify labels and manuals. Do not test an uncertain combination by powering it on.
Plan termination and length as one system
Terminate the two physical endpoints of the complete bus and disable intermediate termination. Include internal cable, external cable, backplane, and device wiring in the length assessment. Use manufacturer limits for the actual transfer mode.
Specify the replacement
Choose external shielding and retention for the environment, or internal spacing and orientation for a chassis assembly. Then provide BespokeCable with photographs, model numbers, connector details, length, pinout, and quantity.
The SCSI-2 cable product range supplies product context, but an approved drawing or known-good sample should control any proprietary replacement.
What SCSI-2 does not tell you?
The SCSI-2 label does not tell you whether the cable is internal or external, which connector family was selected, whether the bus is narrow or wide, or whether a particular manufacturer used a proprietary transition assembly. Those fields belong in the actual purchase specification.
It also does not prove that a modern adapter will support the legacy target. Review controller documentation and operating-system support separately from the cable.
Commission the replacement methodically
Begin with one target, unique IDs, and verified endpoint termination. Confirm stable discovery, then reconnect additional devices one at a time. If performance or detection changes, record the device and cable segment that was added.
Before you finalize the cable
- Confirm both connector faces, gender, keying, and retention hardware.
- Confirm the equipment protocol, signaling mode, and approved pinout.
- Check total bus topology, length, and the two termination endpoints.
- Approve the drawing or verified sample before production or installation.
Next step
If you want BespokeCable to review an SCSI cable requirement, send the host and peripheral models, clear port photographs, required length, pinout or equipment manual, installation environment, and quantity. These details let us evaluate the requested assembly without guessing from a connector nickname.
