SSD Power Cable

BC-DAG019 covers several internal power-adapter layouts, including LP4-to-SATA options and a reverse-interface harness. Choose by the actual connector faces, load, and wiring—not by the SSD Power Cable family name alone.

  • Power only; a separate SATA data connection is required.
  • A–E reference images show SATA female power sockets in single- or multiple-drive layouts.
  • F shows a SATA male power end with two different four-position branches; it is not a direct SATA female SSD lead.
  • Standard LP4 supply provides 5V and 12V rails, not a native 3.3V feed.
  • Confirm mating gender, polarity, wire specification, and complete-assembly current before ordering.
  • OEM length, spacing, and identification requirements can be reviewed.

SSD Power Cable and LP4-to-SATA Adapter Options

Adding a SATA SSD can create a simple, practical problem: the available power connector doesn’t match the drive or cannot reach it cleanly. The BC-DAG019 family includes several power-harness layouts for reviewing that mismatch. It is not one universal cable with six interchangeable appearances.

Start with the drive specification and the available supply. These passive assemblies route the rails defined by their wiring; they do not regulate voltage, add power capacity, or carry storage data. Where the drive manufacturer recommends a native PSU SATA power lead, follow that guidance rather than adding an unnecessary splitter or adapter.

What to Confirm Before Selection

ItemSelection requirement
Drive interfaceAppropriate SATA power socket for the specific drive; not an M.2 NVMe or proprietary laptop power connection
Source interfaceConfirm LP4 or SATA mating face and gender for the selected assembly
Power railsMatch the drive requirements and pin mapping; a conventional LP4 feed supplies 5V/12V and does not create 3.3V
Current and loadVerify supply capacity, wire and terminal limits, branch count and aggregate device demand; no blanket 4.5A rating is stated
Data functionNone; use a separate compatible data cable
Length and spacingAgree input length, branch lengths and connector spacing on the order drawing
DocumentationSpecify required material declarations, inspection scope and sample approval requirements before quotation

Read the Six Reference Images by Connector Type

Use the gallery labels A–F with the reference table below. Confirm each connector face and the intended supply-to-load arrangement before choosing a model.

Keep Voltage, Capacity, and Connector Count Separate

Many 2.5-inch SATA SSDs use a 5V supply, but the specific drive label and manual are the reference. The presence of a 15-position SATA housing does not prove that every possible SATA power rail is populated. In particular, a passive LP4 adapter cannot provide a missing 3.3V rail.

On the two- and three-output versions, all connected devices share the upstream path. Review the complete load, contact condition, conductor specification, and installation environment. A connector latch can aid retention, but it is not a substitute for an electrical load review or a vibration qualification.

Which Cable Solves Your Actual Gap?

If you already have the correct SATA power connection and only need reach, compare the SATA power extension. If you need the separate data connection, see the SATA cable for SSD. The broader SATA collection covers other interface and routing needs.

For a quotation, send photos of the source and drive connectors, device models, required branch lengths, quantity, and electrical requirements. BespokeCable can review the appropriate layout and sample specification with you before you commit to a production build.

Model F Has a Different Interface Direction

The F reference image has a SATA male power plug, an LP4 female socket, and a smaller four-position socket. This is a different interface arrangement from the SATA female drive feeds shown in A–E.

Do not choose F merely because the page is titled SSD Power Cable. Identify the intended source, both loads, mating housings, and pin mapping first. The smaller socket must be matched to its actual equipment connector; a four-position count is not sufficient to establish compatibility.

Are all A–F models direct power leads for a SATA SSD?

No. A–E show SATA female power sockets, but their source connections and branch counts differ. F has a SATA male power plug and four-position branches, so it is a different interface arrangement rather than a direct SATA female drive lead.

Will the B model mate with a normal PSU LP4 socket?

Do not assume so. Its reference image shows an LP4 female socket, which needs the corresponding male mating connector. Several other models show male LP4 pins. Confirm the connector face and intended source before ordering.

Can a passive LP4 adapter supply 3.3V?

A conventional LP4 peripheral feed provides 5V and 12V rails, not 3.3V. A passive adapter cannot create a missing voltage. Check the exact drive power requirements and approved wiring instead of relying on the 15-position SATA housing.

Do two or three SATA outputs increase available power?

No. Connected devices share the upstream connector and conductors. Confirm the aggregate load, source capacity, and complete harness limits for the selected build. Additional sockets are not additional supply capacity.

Does this cable carry data or power an M.2 NVMe SSD?

It carries power only and lacks an NVMe interface. A compatible SATA drive also needs its own separate data connection. M.2 and proprietary drive formats require their own electrical and mechanical compatibility checks.

Should I use an adapter when my PSU already has SATA power?

Follow the drive and PSU manufacturer’s guidance. A suitable native PSU SATA power lead is generally preferable to an unnecessary adapter or splitter. Never substitute a visually similar modular PSU cable without exact manufacturer compatibility.

Is 4.5A a verified rating for every model?

No blanket current rating is stated for this series. The quoted limit must account for the selected contacts, conductors, branch arrangement, source, and operating conditions. Define any required load-test scope before sample approval.

Can you change lengths, branch spacing or labels?

Send the required layout, source and device connector details, electrical requirements, lengths, spacing, and quantity. We can review these for an OEM quotation. A custom mechanical layout still needs the correct pin mapping and load assessment.

What should be agreed before a production order?

Approve the connector identities, wiring drawing, materials, and sample evaluation scope. Request any required declarations or test evidence for the specific build. Confirm the minimum quantity, lead time, and warranty terms in the quotation before placing a production order.

Planning SSD Power Without Adding an Unnecessary Weak Link

A power adapter is useful when it addresses a specific connector mismatch. It is less useful when you choose it simply because an SSD fits a drive bay. Before adding any harness, check whether the PSU already provides a suitable native SATA power lead and whether the drive vendor permits the proposed adapter arrangement.

Identify the Supply End First

A peripheral LP4 connection and a modular PSU socket are not interchangeable. Use only the correct manufacturer-approved cable at a modular PSU connection. At the peripheral end, verify the connector gender: the B reference has an LP4 female socket, whereas several other models show male pins. A similar white housing does not make them direct substitutes.

Confirm Rails Before Counting Contacts

The drive specification determines the required voltage. A conventional four-pin peripheral supply provides 5V and 12V rails; a passive wiring adapter cannot produce 3.3V. Likewise, a 15-pin housing does not prove all 15 positions have independent supply conductors. Confirm the wiring drawing and any drive-specific power-pin requirements instead of inferring them from contact count or insulation color.

Review the Shared Path on Split Versions

Adding branches does not increase the upstream connector or cable capacity. Consider all attached devices and their operating demands together, not just one SSD on its own. Agree on the wire and terminal specification and any load-test requirement for the quoted assembly. Do not use a generic current figure from a different adapter as a rating for this series.

Fit the Cable Without Loading the Drive Port

With the equipment powered down and isolated, align the keyed connector without forcing it. Check the angle against the drive bay, neighboring plugs, and access to any release latch. Support the route so that a closed panel or bundled wires do not pull sideways on the drive connector. Unplug by the housing rather than the conductors, and do not connect or disconnect live unless the equipment procedure explicitly permits it.

Approve the Particular Build You Will Reorder

Record the model reference, connector identities, pin mapping, branch lengths, spacing, and required documentation. Evaluate a sample with the intended supply and drive, using an agreed inspection and functional test scope. Warranty terms, minimum quantity, and lead time belong in that quotation; they should not be inferred from unsupported lifetime-warranty or universal-compatibility statements.

Send photos of your connector and your load requirements through the inquiry form. A clear view of the source connection is often the fastest way to determine whether you need an adapter, a different branch arrangement, or simply a native power lead.
