SATA to SATA Power Cable

BC-DAG021 offers two SATA power layouts: A extends one existing connection, while B branches one connection into two drive-side sockets. Choose the layout for the actual routing problem, then check the complete power path.

  • 15-pin SATA male source connection and SATA female drive-side socket or sockets.
  • BC-DAG021-A: one input and one output for added reach.
  • BC-DAG021-B: one input and two outputs for a two-drive branch.
  • Power only; no SATA data connection or voltage conversion.
  • Confirm required rails, pin mapping, total load, and cable dimensions before approval.
  • OEM length, branch spacing, and identification are reviewable.

SATA to SATA Power Cable: BC-DAG021 Extension and Y-Branch Options

If you already have the right power connector, the next question is whether you need more reach or another outlet. BC-DAG021-A is the one-to-one extension layout. BC-DAG021-B provides a two-socket branch from one source connection. Keeping those purposes separate helps avoid ordering a splitter when the real problem is simply cable length.

Both are passive internal power harnesses. They do not increase PSU capacity, balance wattage between drives, or carry storage data. A suitable connector layout is only part of the selection: the supply, wire, and contact limits still have to support the intended devices.

A Y-Branch Does Not Divide Power Equally

The two devices draw current according to their own requirements; the cable is not an active power-sharing controller. Both branches share the upstream connection, so adding a second socket does not add source capacity. Include drive start-up demand where applicable, and follow the equipment manufacturer’s requirements for adapters and split leads.

If only extra reach is needed, use the one-to-one arrangement rather than adding unused branches. Avoid building a chain of splitters as a substitute for an appropriately specified power harness or native PSU leads.

Confirm the Pins, Not Just the Housing

The photographs show multi-wire assemblies, but wire colors do not establish the approved electrical mapping. Confirm the required rails with the drive manual. Some drives implement SATA Power Disable on power pin 3, so the supply arrangement and pin handling must suit that particular drive. This page does not promise a universal Power Disable bypass or advise modifying live connectors.

For a drive that needs its own data connection, compare the SATA cable for the SSD. An LP4-to-SATA power option uses a different source connector; it isn’t automatically interchangeable with these SATA-to-SATA layouts.

Make Your Quote About the Actual Route

Send the source and drive models, connector photos, device count, electrical requirements, and a route sketch. For B, mark the input and each branch length independently. Add the quantity and any labeling, packaging, or inspection requirements. BespokeCable can review those details for a standard configuration or an OEM harness quotation.

Check Power and Data Plug Clearance Together

The in-case photograph shows a SATA SSD with separate power and data connections. It is an installation reference, not a performance test or proof that every PC or drive accepts the same harness.

Check the power housing and the adjacent data plug. Route the lead so the enclosure panel doesn’t press on the connectors, and support the cable so you don’t pull sideways on the drive. For a two-drive branch, check both device locations and the shared input load before selecting the cable lengths.

What is the difference between BC-DAG021-A and B?

A is a one-to-one SATA power extension. B has one SATA male source plug and two SATA female drive sockets. Choose based on whether you need extra reach or a second outlet; the branch version doesn’t increase the available supply capacity.

Which end connects to the existing PSU lead?

The SATA male plug mates with the compatible peripheral SATA female power connector. The female socket or sockets connect to the appropriate drive-side power interface. These are not direct replacement cables for a modular PSU socket.

Does the Y-cable give each drive the same power?

No. Each device draws current according to its own demand. Both branches share the input path, so the combined load must be within the limits of the source, contacts, conductors, and complete assembly.

Is 4.5A per contact a guaranteed rating?

No blanket per-contact rating is stated here. Confirm the required current and the quoted assembly specification. Wire, terminal construction, populated circuits, and operating conditions all affect the usable limit.

Will this solve every SATA Power Disable issue?

No universal bypass is promised. Some drives use power pin 3 for Power Disable. Check the drive’s documentation and agree on the required pin handling in the wiring diagram, rather than selecting based on connector appearance or wire color.

Can I connect several Y-cables in a chain?

Do not assume that stacking splitters is acceptable. Every added junction and shared conductor becomes part of the load path. Review native PSU leads or a purpose-designed harness, and follow the equipment manufacturer’s limits.

Does it carry SATA data or increase storage speed?

No. These are power assemblies only. Each drive needs its own compatible data connection, and the power cable doesn’t change the controller or drive interface rate.

Can it power both SATA SSDs and hard drives?

Only where the drive interface, required rails, and complete load match the selected harness and supply. Check the exact device specifications, including HDD start-up demand, where applicable. Drive size alone does not establish compatibility.

Can the input and branch lengths be customized?

Send a route sketch showing each measurement point and the required spacing. We can review the lengths, branch layout, and identification for an OEM quotation. The electrical specification still needs approval for the selected build.

Can I use it as a modular PSU or GPU power cable?

No. It is a peripheral SATA-to-SATA power harness, not a direct modular PSU cable or a replacement for a GPU six- or eight-pin power connection. Use the equipment manufacturer’s specified cable for those interfaces.

What should be approved before a production order?

Agree on the model, mating connectors, pin map, conductor specification, lengths, total load, and sample evaluation scope. Request any required material declarations or test records for that build. Confirm quantity, lead time, and warranty terms in the quotation.

Choosing Between More Reach and One More Power Outlet

Power-routing requests often start with “I need a longer SATA cable,” but the useful drawing depends on what is missing. If one drive socket is in the right place electrically but too short mechanically, an extension addresses reach. If a second drive needs an outlet, a branch creates a different load and routing problem.

Map the Route Before Choosing A or B

Measure from the existing peripheral SATA power lead to the intended drive position, including a modest service allowance. For a Y-branch, measure the two paths independently. A symmetrical-looking photograph doesn’t show the branch dimensions you need. Keep the route clear of fans, sharp edges, and the area required for adjacent data connectors.

Review the Shared Input

The branch point does not turn one power lead into two independent supplies. Check the combined device demand against the weakest part of the path, including the upstream connector and wire. For HDD installations, include the documented start-up requirement rather than relying only on an idle-power figure. A nominally similar splitter from another supplier is not evidence of this assembly’s rating.

Check Drive-Specific Power Pins

A 15-pin SATA power housing is not a universal wiring guarantee. Confirm the required rails and any special power-pin behavior from the equipment documentation. Where Power Disable applies, resolve the pin 3 arrangement on the wiring drawing before approving the sample. Do not cut conductors or mask contacts as an improvised substitute for a suitable specified harness.

Install Without Using the Cable as a Handle

Power down and isolate the equipment before servicing unless the equipment instructions explicitly support hot swapping. Align the keyed housing without forcing it. The pictured connectors do not indicate a metal latch or an audible locking click. Grip the housing when disconnecting and leave enough slack that panel closure cannot tug on the drive port.

Approve What Will Be Repeated

Record the connector identities, pin map, conductor specification, lengths, and branch spacing. Agree any requested continuity, polarity, load, or environmental test scope with clear acceptance criteria. Include minimum quantity, sample terms, lead time, and required declarations in the quotation for the selected build; a generic catalog claim does not establish these.

Send the route sketch and load requirements through the inquiry form. If the connector family is not yet clear, the SATA cable collection is a useful starting point for comparing the relevant interfaces.
