Connection and Specification Guide

SATA Data and Power Cable with 22-Pin Drive Connector

When a drive bay needs both data and power, a combined drive-side socket can simplify the connection. The BC-DAG030 harness brings the SATA data and power sections together at the drive while keeping the controller lead and PSU lead separate.

Use it with a compatible standard SATA HDD, SSD, or optical drive that has the matching 22-pin interface. Select the variant based on the space at the controller and drive, then review the power requirements. A 13-pin Slimline SATA optical drive or a 16-pin Micro SATA drive needs a different interface.

Connection Reference

ConnectionPurpose and selection check
22-pin SATA femaleConnects to the standard drive interface: 7 data positions plus 15 power positions.
7-pin SATA femaleConnects to a compatible motherboard or SATA controller data port. B uses a right-angle data connector.
4-pin LP4 maleMates with a compatible PSU peripheral power lead. Conventional LP4 provides 5V, 12V, and ground; it does not provide a 3.3V rail.
Data requirementSpecify the required SATA link rate, including 6Gbps applications, for configuration review. System throughput depends on the drive, controller, and complete connection.
Power requirementReview the drive voltage, startup current, PSU capacity, and proposed harness rating. The cable provides no voltage conversion.
Length and materialsSpecify data and power branch lengths separately. Wire gauge, jacket, color, and inspection requirements are agreed for the quoted configuration.

Three Layouts for Different Installation Spaces

BC-DAG030-A uses a straight 7-pin data connector with a metal latch. BC-DAG030-B places a right-angle connector at the 7-pin data end. BC-DAG030-C adds visible retention hardware at both SATA ends. Check the matching port and access to each release tab before choosing a locking version.

For separate leads, compare our SATA data cables and LP4 to SATA power options. For a slim optical drive, review the Slim SATA cable family instead.

22-Pin SATA to SATA 7-Pin with latch and LP4 Cable

P/N: BC-DAG030-A

A straight 7-pin SATA data connector with a metal latch, an LP4 power plug, and a combined 22-pin drive socket. A useful starting layout when the controller connection has room for a straight cable exit. Confirm branch lengths and drive power requirements for your assembly.

BC-DAG030-B SATA harness with a right-angle seven-pin data connector, LP4 power plug and combined 22-pin drive socket
22-Pin SATA to 90-Degree SATA 7-Pin with latch and LP4 Cable

P/N: BC-DAG030-B

The right-angle 7-pin SATA data connector changes the cable exit at the controller side while retaining the combined drive socket and LP4 power connection. Send a port photo or enclosure drawing to confirm the bend direction and release-tab access before choosing this layout.

BC-DAG030-C black SATA data and power harness with retention hardware at both SATA ends and a separate LP4 power plug
22-Pin SATA with latch to SATA 7-Pin with latch and LP4 Cable

P/N: BC-DAG030-C

This version shows retention hardware at both SATA ends, with a separate LP4 power branch and a black cable finish. Review latch compatibility, connector support, and removal access at the drive and controller. Choose it based on the mating-port arrangement and installation needs, then confirm the quoted construction.

Check the Right-Angle Data Connector Before Ordering

The bend in BC-DAG030-B is at the separate 7-pin SATA data end. That detail matters when a motherboard port sits close to a chassis wall or another connector: the bend must send the cable into free space.

Check the port orientation with the equipment assembled. Include adjacent connectors, the cable path, and access to the latch. A photo with the required exit direction marked is often enough to start a useful layout discussion.

At the drive, allow room for the combined 22-pin socket and support the harness so movement in either branch does not pull on the drive interface.

BC-DAG030-B SATA harness with a right-angle seven-pin data connector, LP4 power plug and combined 22-pin drive socket
Where do the three connectors attach?

The 22-pin SATA female socket attaches to the compatible drive. The 7-pin SATA female lead attaches to the host SATA data port. The LP4 male plug mates with a compatible PSU peripheral power connector. Review the connection drawing for the ordered configuration.

What changes between the A, B and C models?

A has a straight latched 7-pin data connector. B has a right-angle connector at that data end. C shows retention hardware at both SATA ends. The photos also show different cable finishes; confirm the construction and latch arrangement in the quotation.

Can it be used with a SATA SSD or hard drive?

It can be considered for a standard SATA drive with the matching 22-pin interface and compatible power requirements. Confirm the device model and required rails. Slimline SATA, Micro SATA, NVMe, and SAS interfaces should not be assumed to be compatible.

Does the LP4 connection provide 3.3V?

Conventional LP4 provides 5V, 12V, and ground, without a 3.3V rail. Check the drive documentation and proposed power pin mapping before ordering. The harness does not generate an additional voltage.

Does a 6Gbps SATA link mean 6Gbps file transfers?

No. The negotiated link rate and application throughput are different. The drive, controller, and complete connection affect performance. Specify your required SATA link rate for configuration review, and evaluate a sample in the actual system.

Can the data and power branches have different lengths?

Include the required length of each branch in your inquiry, together with the measurement points and connector orientation. Confirm availability, materials, and any custom construction for the quoted configuration.

Can I request a sample for an OEM project?

Yes. Send the device details, connector arrangement, branch lengths and expected order quantity. Ask for sample availability and quotation terms, then review the sample in the intended equipment before approving production.

How should I choose between a combined harness and separate cables?

A combined drive socket can simplify drive-side connection when the data and PSU routes suit the harness. Separate leads may suit a layout that needs independent routing or a different power source. Compare the actual drive bay, port clearance, and service access before deciding.

Planning an Internal SATA Data and Power Harness

A combined SATA harness is most useful when its three connection points match the assembly: drive, controller, and power supply. Looking at those points together helps avoid ordering a cable that mates correctly but routes poorly or lacks a required supply rail.

Follow the Connection Path

With the equipment powered off, identify the drive’s standard 22-pin SATA interface. The combined female socket connects there. The separate 7-pin data lead goes to the motherboard or SATA controller, while the LP4 male plug mates with a compatible peripheral power lead from the PSU. The LP4 branch is the power source connection; it is not an extra data output or a fan connection in this drive harness.

Check the Drive Power Specification

Conventional LP4 wiring carries 5V and 12V alongside ground. It does not supply 3.3V. Read the drive documentation rather than assuming every device with a SATA connector uses the same rails. Include startup current when reviewing a hard-drive application, and check the complete power path from PSU to drive against the proposed cable configuration.

If a drive has special requirements for power-control pins, include those in the pin-mapping review. A generic cable description does not establish how every power pin is wired. Ask for the proposed connection drawing when the exact mapping affects equipment operation.

Measure Both Branches

The controller and PSU connection may be far apart from the drive bay. Measure the data route and the power route separately, including the space needed to seat and remove the connectors. Leave practical service room while keeping the cable clear of fans, sharp chassis edges, and drive-tray movement.

Choose the Latch Arrangement Deliberately

A latch helps retain a compatible connection, but you also need access for release it. Compare the actual port with the pictured straight, right-angle, or dual-latch version. Retention hardware alone does not prove suitability for a specified vibration environment; any required environmental performance should be agreed and verified for the assembly.

Approve the Cable in the Intended System

Before a production order, evaluate the proposed sample with the intended controller and drive. Check startup, device detection, representative transfers, and connector seating after final routing. Agree any required continuity, pin-mapping, or application-level checks as part of the order requirements.

For a quotation, send the selected model, drive and controller details, PSU mating connector, separate branch lengths, clearance photos and expected quantity. BespokeCable can review these details with you so the quoted harness matches the job it needs to do. Send your assembly details or browse the SATA cable range for other layouts.
