Choose Your Power Harness

Molex to SATA Power Adapter Cables

A spare power connector is useful only if it matches the drive, available space, and electrical load. The BespokeCable BC-DAG017 family offers eleven cable layouts, from single SATA drive connections to branched harnesses and SATA-to-peripheral arrangements. Select a model from the photographs below, then send us your mating connector details for a configuration-specific quotation.

These passive power harnesses adapt connector layouts and distribute the supplied rails. They do not generate missing voltage, increase power-supply capacity, or store data. Complete the drive connection with a suitable SATA data cable.

Start with the Correct Connector Layout

RequirementModelsSelection detail
One SATA connectionA / B / CA is straight; B adds a latch; C uses a latched right-angle SATA end.
Two SATA connectionsD / E / FD is straight; E adds latches; F uses two latched right-angle ends.
Three SATA connectionsGCheck the combined starting and running load on the shared feed.
Female contacts at both endsHConfirm both mating interfaces and the intended source side.
SATA male with peripheral connectionsI / J / KI has one large 4-pin female; J has two; K combines a large and small 4-pin connector.

This matrix is a routing guide, not a compatibility guarantee. Connector gender alone does not establish an approved power path. Use one defined power source per harness; never join independent power supplies through its branches.

Compare the Eleven BC-DAG017 Cable Layouts

Start with the connector combination shown, then confirm branch spacing, mating contacts, and load. Include the model suffix in your inquiry so we can discuss the exact layout.

Molex to SATA Power Adapter: Converts a legacy 4-pin Molex power connector to a SATA power connector.
Molex Male to SATA Female Power Cable

P/N: BC-DAG017-A

A single straight SATA female end connects to a large 4-pin peripheral male connector. Start here for a simple one-drive harness where the cable can exit directly behind the drive. Specify the required reach and device load when requesting your quotation.

Molex to SATA Power Cable: Short cable adapter for connecting older PSUs to modern SATA hard drives or SSDs.
Molex Male to SATA Female Power Cable with Latch

P/N: BC-DAG017-B

Choose a straight SATA female end with a metal latch when retention matters and you have rear clearance. The opposite end is a large 4-pin peripheral male connector. Check that the mating SATA housing accepts the latch and leaves room for release.

BC-DAG017-C: 4-pin peripheral male to one right-angle SATA female power connector with metal latch
Molex Male to 90-Degree SATA Female Power Cable with Latch

P/N: BC-DAG017-C

This single-branch model combines a large 4-pin peripheral male connector with a latched 90-degree SATA female end. Consider it where a straight exit would meet the enclosure wall. Send the drive orientation and nearby connector layout to confirm the required bend direction.

Molex and SATA Power Cable: Provides both Molex and SATA power connectors from a single source for flexibility.
Molex Male to Dual SATA Female Power Cable

P/N: BC-DAG017-D

Two straight SATA female branches share one large 4-pin peripheral male connection. This layout offers separate cable routes to two drive positions without adding another source connector. Provide both branch lengths and the combined device load so the shared feed can be reviewed.

4-Pin Molex to SATA Power Cable: Specifically converts the standard 4-pin peripheral power connector to SATA.
Molex Male to Dual SATA Female Power Cable with Latch

P/N: BC-DAG017-E

Two straight SATA female connectors add metal-latch retention to a dual-branch harness. A large 4-pin peripheral male connector forms the common end. Consider this arrangement for two accessible drive positions, and confirm latch clearance, branch reach, and simultaneous loading before selecting the assembly.

BC-DAG017-F: 4-pin peripheral male to two right-angle SATA female power connectors with metal latches
Molex Male to Dual 90-Degree SATA Female Power Cable with Latch

P/N: BC-DAG017-F

Two latched 90-degree SATA female ends provide angled cable exits from a shared large 4-pin peripheral male connection. Use the photograph to compare the turns with your drive positions. Confirm both exit directions, branch lengths, and latch access before committing to this layout.

BC-DAG017-G: 4-pin peripheral male to three straight SATA female power connectors
Molex Male to Three SATA Female Power Cable

P/N: BC-DAG017-G

Three straight SATA female branches connect to one large 4-pin peripheral male end. This is the starting layout for three device positions, not a promise of additional supply capacity. Provide rail-by-rail starting and running loads, together with branch lengths, for assembly review.

BC-DAG017-H: one 4-pin peripheral female connector and one straight SATA female power connector
Molex Female to SATA Female Power Cable

P/N: BC-DAG017-H

A large 4-pin peripheral female connector pairs with a SATA female end. This differs from the male peripheral A–G models and should be selected based on both mating interfaces. Supply connector-face photographs and identify the power source so we can check the intended wiring.

BC-DAG017-I: SATA male power connector to one 4-pin peripheral female connector
Molex Female to SATA Male Power Cable

P/N: BC-DAG017-I

A SATA male connector pairs with one large 4-pin peripheral female end. Consider this connector arrangement when a SATA supply lead must mate with a legacy peripheral connection. Confirm the available voltage rails, device pin assignment, and load before ordering the required length.

BC-DAG017-J: SATA male power connector branching to two 4-pin peripheral female connectors
Dual Molex Female to SATA Male Power Cable

P/N: BC-DAG017-J

One SATA male connector branches into two large 4-pin peripheral female ends. Review this layout as a single-source distribution harness with a defined pin map and combined load. Do not connect separate power supplies to the branches or treat it as a power combiner.

BC-DAG017-K: SATA male power connector with one large 4-pin peripheral female and one small 4-pin connector
Molex Female and Small 4-Pin to SATA Male Power Cable

P/N: BC-DAG017-K

One SATA male end pairs with a large 4-pin peripheral female connector and a small 4-pin connector. This mixed layout suits a project requiring two different mating interfaces. Confirm the small connector dimensions and pin assignment; four positions alone do not establish compatibility.

Choose the Cable Exit That Fits Your Drive Bay

The straight models leave the cable running away from the SATA connector. The right-angle C and F versions turn the exit close to the drive, which can help where a side panel or adjacent bay limits space. Choose by the direction of the turn, not just the words “90-degree.”

Send a photo showing the drive connector, nearby data socket, and enclosure wall. We can review the cable exit and branch reach against your layout. Leave room to operate the metal latch, and support the harness so its weight does not pull on the drive connector. A latch improves retention but does not establish a vibration rating for the complete assembly.

BC-DAG017-C: 4-pin peripheral male to one right-angle SATA female power connector with metal latch
Will a Molex-to-SATA cable solve a drive power-disable problem?

It can help in a specific case: some SATA HDDs use pin 3 for Power Disable, and an older supply holding that pin at 3.3 V can prevent startup. A correctly wired legacy 4-pin adapter without that rail may avoid the conflict. Check the exact drive manual and assembly pin map; this isn’t a universal fix for a drive that will not start.

Can I connect or disconnect these harnesses while powered?

Do not treat this cable family as a hot-plug system. A SATA connector alone does not establish safe live insertion for the complete power path. Switch off and disconnect the supply before changing the harness unless the entire equipment design explicitly supports a validated hot-swap procedure.

Does the name Molex mean every connector is a genuine Molex part?

No. Here, Molex is the common name for the legacy large 4-pin peripheral interface; it does not indicate a connector brand or authorized-distributor status. If your bill of materials requires a genuine branded part, provide the manufacturer and complete part number for sourcing confirmation.

Does a 15-pin SATA connector mean all voltage rails are supplied?

No. The connector has fifteen contact positions, but the available rails depend on the source and wiring. A conventional 4-pin peripheral supply provides 5 V, 12 V, and ground; a passive harness doesn’t provide 3.3 V. Confirm the device’s voltage requirements rather than judging by connector width or drive size.

Does the adapter include a fuse or overcurrent protection?

No built-in fuse or active protection is specified for the illustrated standard harnesses. Do not rely on an adapter as a protective device. Define the required branch protection with the equipment designer and confirm any protected custom assembly explicitly in the drawing and quotation.

Is model K a CPU, motherboard or fan power cable?

Do not assume that from its small 4-pin connector. CPU, fan, and legacy peripheral connectors can use different housings and electrical assignments. Model K must be matched by connector dimensions, mating part, and pinout; it is not advertised as a generic replacement for those other interfaces.

Can this cable upgrade SATA speed or convert an IDE data interface?

No. It carries power, not the data link. It does not change the SATA generation, convert IDE/PATA data to SATA, or make a drive externally accessible via USB. The storage controller, data cable, and drive determine the data connection; choose a separate, appropriate converter if you need to change the protocol.

Can I chain multiple adapters to reach more drives?

A connector that mates physically does not make an adapter chain suitable. Each added joint introduces another contact interface, while downstream loads still share the upstream feed. For a defined multi-drive build, request a harness with the required branch layout instead of extending an unreviewed chain.

How should I compare molded and crimped SATA adapter construction?

Do not approve an assembly from the housing style alone. Review the specified terminals, conductor size, termination method, insulation, and manufacturing controls, then evaluate the finished harness under the intended load. Ask for construction details when sourcing; a photograph does not prove contact quality or current capacity.

Can I request samples before placing a production order?

Yes, ask for sample availability for the selected suffix and any proposed modifications. Include the required quantity and evaluation schedule. Confirm sample cost, preparation time, and production lead time in the quotation; a custom layout may require a drawing review first.

Which compliance documents can I request with a quotation?

State the required market, material restrictions, and documentation in your inquiry. Ask for evidence applicable to the actual assembly and its bill of materials. A material flammability classification, component approval, and finished-product certification are different things; none should be inferred from this family name or a generic logo.

Is software or a driver required for this power harness?

No driver is needed for the passive harness itself. That does not guarantee the operating system will detect the drive; detection also depends on a suitable data connection, controller settings, drive condition, and stable power. If troubleshooting, check the complete system rather than installing software for the cable.

Plan a Molex-to-SATA Harness Around the Installation

A connector that fits on the bench may still make assembly awkward inside a finished machine. For replacement harnesses, industrial PCs and storage fixtures, start with the real cable route rather than copying an overall length from another system.

Map the source and the loads

Identify the power source and mark each device connection. A through G use a large 4-pin male connector with SATA female branches. I through K use a SATA male connector with peripheral female ends. H has female contacts at both ends. Confirm the actual mating contacts and pin map instead of assuming every cable in the family serves the same direction.

These assemblies connect at the peripheral-cable side of a system. They are not generic replacements for cables that plug directly into a modular PSU. PSU-side pinouts can differ between models even when housings look alike. Check the power-supply manufacturer’s compatibility information for that interface.

Size the shared feed for the complete load

Two or three output connectors do not create additional available current. Review the combined load on each rail, including HDD spin-up demand, alongside the input connector, conductor size, branch lengths, and upstream harness. A PSU’s total wattage alone is not enough to approve a small adapter assembly.

For a production design, agree on load conditions and acceptance checks before ordering. Relevant checks include wiring continuity, polarity, contact engagement, voltage drop, and temperature rise at the intended simultaneous load. Request applicable records rather than treating an unverified headline current figure as a test result.

Measure the route, not just the gap

Provide the distance from the source connector to the first device and the spacing between further branches. Include the path around drive trays and brackets, plus enough service allowance to remove a drive without pulling on the contacts. Excess cable can obstruct a small enclosure; a cable cut too short can put constant stress on the connector.

If the system already provides the correct SATA connector and needs only more reach, a SATA power extension may be a better starting point than adding a peripheral transition. Explore the SATA cable range when both power and data routes need attention.

Make the first sample representative

For an OEM inquiry, send the selected BC-DAG017 suffix, connector-face photographs or part numbers, a dimensioned route, device models, rail-by-rail load information, and expected order quantity. Include any environmental or documentation requirements. This lets the quotation address the actual build rather than an assumed standard harness.

Evaluate the sample in the intended enclosure with all branches in use. Check latch access, connector seating, and clearance beside the data lead. Once wiring and layout are approved, keep the drawing revision with the purchase specification so repeat orders reference the same configuration.

Install with the system de-energized

Switch off and disconnect the power source before fitting or changing the harness. Align keyed connectors without forcing them, check that terminals have not backed out of their housings, and keep wiring clear of sharp edges. If a connector is loose, discolored, or unusually hot in use, stop using it and investigate the connection and load before restarting.

Have a connector photo but no drawing yet? Send it with your required cable route. We can use the model range as a starting point for discussing the right assembly.
