Micro SATA Adapter

Use a compact adapter to connect a compatible Micro SATA drive to a standard SATA data-and-power connection, instead of a loose cable assembly. BC-DAG011 is designed for legacy drive servicing, storage test setups, and equipment integration where the smaller drive interface needs to be matched correctly.

  • 16-pin Micro SATA female to 22-pin standard SATA male.
  • Rigid inline adapter with a black molded housing.
  • For compatible Micro SATA HDDs or SSDs, including selected 1.8-inch drives.
  • SATA interface adaptation, not USB, mSATA, or NVMe conversion.
  • Confirm drive voltage, source power rails, and adapter pin mapping before connecting.

Send the drive model and a photo of your existing data-and-power connection for a configuration review.

Compact Interface Adaptation for Legacy SATA Drives

Micro SATA Adapter: 16-Pin Female to 22-Pin Male

Small legacy drives can be difficult to reuse when the service bench or replacement system has standard SATA connections. BC-DAG011 changes the physical interface between a compatible Micro SATA drive and a standard SATA data-and-power connection. The compact rigid body keeps the connection short and makes it practical to inspect and support inside a fixture.

Start with the connector, not the drive size alone. A 1.8-inch drive may use a different interface, and Micro SATA is not the same as mSATA. Confirm the full drive model before ordering a batch for maintenance or refurbishment.

Plan Both the Data and Power Connections

The standard 22-pin side contains separate data and power sections. It is not a 22-pin motherboard data header. A suitable mating cable or backplane must supply both the host data path and the drive’s required power rails.

Micro SATA drives can have different supply requirements. Read the drive label or datasheet and check the source before applying power. Connector shape does not prove a supply provides the correct voltage, and a PCB inside an adapter does not prove it contains a regulator.

Useful for Service Benches and Embedded Equipment

This adapter is a starting point for accessing compatible legacy storage on a SATA service system, evaluating replacement drives or integrating a Micro SATA drive into an equipment assembly. It does not repair a failed drive, bypass encryption, or guarantee that an operating system can read the existing filesystem.

For standard drive connections, compare our SATA cables and adapters. A 7-pin SATA data cable carries only the data path; it is not a substitute for the full drive power connection.

Approve the Fit Before Volume Supply

Send the drive model, mating connector photos, available clearance, and required quantity. For an OEM project, include the electrical drawing and acceptance criteria. Approve the mechanical fit, power mapping, and operation in a representative system before releasing a bulk order. If your project requires material declarations or inspection records, identify them in the RFQ so availability can be verified for the supplied adapter.

A Rigid Adapter Needs Clearance and Support

The pictured adapter places the Micro SATA socket and standard SATA plug in one rigid body. This avoids an intermediate flexible cable, but it also adds depth behind the drive. Check the full installed envelope, including the mating connector and its cable exit.

Support the drive and adapter in the carrier or test fixture. Do not leave a heavy cable hanging from the small drive connector, and do not force the assembly sideways to clear an enclosure wall.

A photo of the assembled drive bay is often more useful than a nominal adapter dimension alone. Send the intended layout so the mechanical arrangement can be reviewed alongside the electrical connection.

Is Micro SATA the same as mSATA?

No. Micro SATA is a compact connector for data and power. mSATA uses a different card-edge format. BC-DAG011 is not an mSATA-to-SATA card adapter.

Will this work with every 1.8-inch drive?

No. Drive size does not identify the connector or power requirements. Some 1.8-inch drives use other interfaces. Provide the complete model and a connector photo before treating this as a compatible replacement.

Can I connect this adapter directly to USB?

No. BC-DAG011 presents SATA interfaces, not a USB interface. USB access requires a suitable active USB-to-SATA bridge and a verified power arrangement for the Micro SATA drive.

Does the adapter need its own driver?

A connector adapter usually doesn’t require a separate software driver. The host storage controller and operating system still need to support the connected drive and its filesystem.

Will it make an older drive run at 6Gb/s?

No. The usable link rate is limited by the drive, the host, and the complete connection. An adapter cannot upgrade an older drive interface, and 6Gb/s is not the same as 6GB/s file transfer.

Does this adapter generate 3.3V from a 5V supply?

Do not assume that it does. Voltage conversion has not been established for this configuration. Confirm the actual adapter circuit and drive supply requirements before using a source that lacks the required rail.

Is hot swapping supported?

Do not infer hot-swap support from the adapter. It depends on the host controller, drive, power sequencing, and system design. Power down for connecting unless the complete installation is explicitly designed for hot-swapping.

Is this a flexible 10cm adapter cable?

No. The pictured BC-DAG011 is a rigid inline adapter. Request its current mechanical drawing for clearance checks; a cabled assembly would be a separate configuration.

What should I check on an evaluation sample?

Check connector fit, orientation, installed clearance, and the documented power mapping before operation. Then evaluate drive detection and data access with the intended host. Agree on any additional inspection requirements before placing a production order.

Can I order samples or a small pilot batch?

Send the configuration and quantity needed for evaluation. The quotation confirms the sample cost, availability, pilot quantity, and production lead time rather than assuming them from the product photograph.

Can OEM labeling or packaging be discussed?

Yes. Provide your labeling, packaging, and traceability requirements with the expected volume. Any housing or electrical change requires a separate feasibility review and approval of the resulting configuration.

Before Connecting a Micro SATA Drive

For a legacy storage project, the quickest route to a useful quote is to identify three things: the drive interface, its power requirements, and the available host-side connection. Resolve those first; a speed label alone cannot answer them.

Identify Micro SATA Correctly

Micro SATA uses a compact combined data-and-power connector with 16 positions. It should not be confused with the 13-pin Slimline SATA interface used on many slim optical drives, the standard 22-pin SATA drive interface, or an mSATA card-edge connector. A drive photo should show the contact face and keying, not just its metal cover.

Check the Power Path Before Switching On

Obtain the drive supply specification and the source pinout. If the drive needs a rail that the source does not provide, do not assume this adapter creates it. Have the adapter wiring and any required power-conversion arrangement confirmed first. Never substitute a physically convenient connector for a verified power connection.

Build a Mechanically Stable Test Setup

With equipment powered off, align the keyed connectors and mate them without twisting. Provide support for the drive, adapter, and attached cables. Keep exposed contacts clear of conductive surfaces and follow the drive and system handling instructions. Hot-plug capability depends on the complete host, power, and drive arrangement; it is not established by this adapter alone.

Separate Drive Access from Data Recovery

A correct electrical connection may allow a healthy drive to be detected, but detection does not guarantee file recovery. For important or failing media, use an appropriate recovery workflow and avoid actions that write to the source drive. Specify any write-blocking requirement separately; this adapter is not advertised as a write blocker.
