Design Features

eSATAp Cables — these cables feature a single, sturdy eSATAp (External SATA with Power) male connector that combines fast data transmission and power delivery through a single interface. The main 0.5-meter cable splits into a standard 22-pin internal SATA plug that connects directly to both the familiar 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA drive types. At the front of this series, you can choose among three power options: a dedicated DC jack, a USB-A male connector, or a 4-pin Molex connector. This allows sourcing power from a compatible 12V DC adapter or a spare USB port, as well as powering an internal PSU. They employ gold contacts plating (15 µ) on the cable for signal integrity and corrosion resistance, as well as foil and braid shielding to achieve stable 6 Gbps SATA III performance. Are built with durable PVC jackets and reinforced connectors, so you can count on them to work day in and day out.

Application

SATA Drives for Internal Connections eSATAp Cables are required to connect SATA drives externally in a straightforward yet robust manner. They’re most commonly used for data recovery and drive cloning, letting IT workers quickly access the contents of an internal drive from a laptop or another computer via an external eSATA port. These cables are a fundamental part of the construction of tailored, ultra-fast external storage chassis, eliminating the need for a separate enclosure case. Perfect for diagnostic workbenches, allowing technicians to test and validate SATA drives. They can also be used to add quick, temporary external storage to devices such as DVRs, NAS units, and gaming consoles with an eSATA port. The various power input models cover the desktop, laptop, and in-chassis use cases.

Quality & Testing

Our eSATAp Cable is engineered to deliver the highest performance, reliability, and quality; every version undergoes a strict multi-step setup testing protocol. This starts with 100% continuity and functional testing of all data pins and power rails (+5V & +12V) to ensure they are correctly mapped on the board and delivering power within specification. Signal Integrity Validation: We validate the signal integrity throughout the 0.5m length of the cable to ensure it supports SATA III 6Gbps data rates without significant degradation.  In addition, all materials and the final product are certified to comply with the CE and RoHS safety & environment standards.

OEM/ODM Services

For enterprises that need customized eSATAp products, we also provide OEM and ODM business. As for customization, it includes alternative cable lengths (usually 0.3m to 2.0m), jacket colors for branding or coding, and packaging (blister packs, retail boxes, or bulk poly bags). For high-volume projects, we can create variants with different power input connectors or modified electrical specifications (e.g., current ratings) to meet your specific application requirements. This gives an opportunity to our clients to have their designs prototyped before placing them for mass production. We offer flexible minimum order quantities and dedicated project management support, ensuring these cables fit perfectly into your product ecosystem or supply chain.

How to Install the eSATAp?

  • Know Your Setup: This depends on your current power source and the type of drive you are using (2.5″ or 3.5″). Ensure that you select the correct cable model- DC, USB, or Molex Power
  • Connect the Power Source: 1. DC Model: Plug the included 12V adapter into the wall and connect it to the DC jack attached to your cable. 2. USB Yeah That’s Right: Plug the USB-A male connector into an available USB slot on your computer or hub. 3. Molex Model: Connect the 4-pin Molex male to a spare peripheral power connector of your internal PSU.
  • Attach To The Drive: Insert the 22-pin SATA female connector firmly into the data and power ports of your 2.5 or 3.5 SATA HDD/SSD.
  • Connect to the Host: Insert the unified eSATAp male connector into the eSATA port of your computer, docking station, or other host device.
  • Power: For DC and Molex models, ensure the power source is on. This will power up the drive and spin it up.
  • This generation system identification: In your host’s case, read the documentation for the operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux) that automatically identifies new disks. If the drive is new, you might need to initialize or format it in Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS).
  • Eject the Disk: Always use “Safely Remove Hardware” or “Eject” in the operating system before disconnecting the cable to avoid data corruption.

User Experience

Our eSATAp Cables are consistently reported to be very convenient and reliable. IT pros and data-recovery specialists often point out how their workflow is simplified with the cable (they avoid a full external enclosure if all that’s needed is quick drive access). People often praised the build quality, especially for the security of the 22-pin connector and ruggedness of the eSATAp plug. Such as the USB-powered model, which powers 2.5-inch SSDs and HDDs directly from a laptop, making it a compact diagnostic device. Advanced users might appreciate having the Molex version for creating neat, internally powered eSATA pass-through connections in modded PC cases. The main feedback is that the product does exactly what it claims — a simple, straightforward, high-performance bridge between an internal SATA drive and an external eSATA port.

What is eSATAp?

eSATAp (sometimes referred to as eSATA/USB or Power over eSATA) is a port that adds an eSATA (External SATA) data connector as well as a USB port, or power pins, so that one cable provides both data connection and power to the external SATA device.

Which power adapter do I need for the "Power eSATA" model?

To power it, a 12V DC adapter with a connector. 1mm center-positive barrel plug, must be able to output 2A or more; cable does not include adapter.

Can the DC Plug and Molex versions power a 3.5" HDD?

The DC Plug and Molex variants will generally work with a 3.5” HDD, but only if sufficient power is provided at least >=2A on 12V. Note that the USB version is typically only good for 2.5″ drives (SSD/HDD).

Will this cable work with SATA II (3Gbps) and SATA I (1.5GbPs) drives?

Yes, the data interface is completely backwards compatible. Their output power is also in the same range.

Can you transfer data via USB if I use the "eSATA and USB" version?

No. Sacrilege there, but this model has a USB connector only for power. Data is transferred only via the eSATA side of the connector.

What’s the 22-pin SATA connector?

It is a standard internal SATA connector for all 2.5″ and 3.5″ drives, combining the 7-pin data and 15-pin power connectors into equal block.

Is the cable hot-pluggable?

Yes, eSATA supports hot-plugging. But you need to use your operating system’s “Safely Remove Hardware” or “Eject” function before disconnecting.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

The minimum order quantity is 100 pieces per model. Our arrangements accommodate mixed-SKU orders and terms.

Does it come in sizes other than 0.5 meters?

Yes, we offer customization. OEM/ODM bulk orders can be built with generic-length cables, typically ranging from 0.3m to 2.0m.

How to Choose the Right eSATAp?

When building a solid, high-speed connection between your computer and an external SATA drive, choosing the right eSATAp (eSATA with Power) option is key. An eSATA cable with a power supply provides both data and power through a single connector, so no separate power adapter is needed—unlike a standard eSATA cable. This means you can simplify your setup, reduce the number of cables on the floor and under your desk, and achieve a more stable operation. For IT professionals, data recovery service providers, or system integrators, choosing the right cable means assessing several key factors to select one that suits your use case and matches your specific drive and power source.

Determine The Type and Power Ratings Of Your Driver

Identify the type of eSATAp cable you’ll need to connect your storage device. Most 2.5-inch SSDs or HDDs only need a 5V power, which can usually be provided by a USB port. On the other hand, a 3.5″ desktop HDD needs both the 5V and the 12V rails (especially during spin-up), which requires a heavy-duty power supply 12V solution. Make sure the cable you choose is rated for whatever voltage and current your drive uses. Using an undersized cable to power a 3.5-inch drive can cause the drive to fail, result in data corruption, or lead to an uncertain operation.

Show the Right Way of Input Power

Depending on your use case, we offer three eSATAp cables with different power input options. The most portable is the USB-powered model, which gets its power directly from a computer’s USB port, but it is typically only strong enough for 2.5-inch drives. The DC-powered version requires a 12V power adapter (often sold separately), and it’s the most universal option, supporting both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drives. The Molex-powered model is powered by an internal desktop PSU, making it perfect for creating a neat, inside to outside pass-throughs connection for a drive docked in an external chassis or hot-swap bay. Pick based on the power sources you have available and the level of application mobility you want.

Check Host Compatibility and Your Data Speed

The eSATAp cable itself does not form an eSATA port; you need one on your host computer or device. Make sure your system has a working eSATA or eSATAp port. To achieve optimal performance, ensure that both the host port and cable support the SATA III (6 Gbps) specification to prevent fast SSDs from becoming a bottleneck. While the cables will work with SATA II (3 Gbps) and SATA I (1.5 Gbps) drives, achieving maximum speeds for modern drives requires full SATA III support throughout the connection chain.

Determine whether build quality and connector integrity are important.

A durable eSATA cable with a power source must be strong enough. Check the product specifications for gold-plated contacts, which resist corrosion and provide stable connectivity over time. A good cable will have high-quality internal wiring, sufficient shielding to prevent electromagnetic interference, and strong strain relief at the connectors to prevent damage from constant plugging in and unplugging. A thin connector or shoddily molded strain relief is an all-too-much place for failure in budget cables.

Think of the Application Environment and Future Use

Consider finally where and how the cable will be used. A 0.5-meter USB-powered cable is best to keep on-hand in a mobile data recovery toolkit. For permanent installations in workstations or servers, power eSATA 12V models with a DC adapter or an internal Molex connection provide a much cleaner, more reliable configuration. Purchasing a flexible, high-quality eSATAp cable from a trusted manufacturer such as Bespokecable will not only solve your connectivity issue right now but also serve as a valuable tool in your professional arsenal for years to come.
